  • To gain the full award A-level Law qualification you are required to study four units in total. The assessments for A-level Law are all by externally assessed examination.
    Studying A-level Law will provide an excellent foundation on which to then further develop your understanding of criminal and civil law, contract law and tort.

  • SUMMARY OF ASSESSMENT
    This specification is divided into a total of 4 units. Weightings
    noted below are expressed in terms of the full A level qualification.

    Unit One: Understanding Legal Values, Structures and Processes
    25% 1½ hours 50 marks (100 UMS)
    Candidates answer two essay questions from a choice of six.

    Unit Two: Understanding Legal Reasoning, Personnel and Methods
    25% 1½ hours 50 marks (100 UMS)
    Candidates answer two out of four stimulus response questions

    Unit 3: Understanding Substantive Law: Freedom, the State and the
    Individual
    20% 1½ hours 50 marks (80 UMS)
    Candidates answer two problem questions from a choice of four from one of
    the following options:
    Contract and Consumer Law: Criminal Law and Justice; Freedom of the
    Individual and Protection of Human Rights

    Unit Four: Understanding Law in Context: Freedom, the State and the
    Individual
    30% 2½ hours 75 marks (120 UMS)
    Candidates answer two out of four questions in Section A and one stimulus
    Response question from a choice of two in Section B from one of the following
    options:
    Contract Law; Criminal Law and Justice; Freedom of the Individual and
    Protection of Human Rights
